The Groom Package: Cut, Beard and Hot Towel Finish in One Chair

By The Lilacroix barbers · · 1,385 words

Hot Towel Shave in Laurelton, NY

A barber package is a set of services done in one sitting by one barber, in the order that makes each one better. The haircut comes first so the line up matches it. The beard gets trimmed after the cut so the two shapes agree. The hot towel comes last because it is the part you remember on the walk out. Ordering them separately gets you the same services. Ordering the package gets you the sequence.

The direct answer: Lilacroix has three packages. The Cut is a haircut, line up, neckline and ear detail. Cut and Beard adds a beard trim and sculpt and a razor beard line. The Full Service adds a hot towel shave finish and a scalp treatment on top of that. All three are call for pricing. What is in each, which one fits which week, and how they compare to picking services one at a time are below.

The three packages at a glance

Three packages, each one built on the last. Pick by how much time you have and what has grown out.

Every package starts with the same haircut, whether that is a taper, a fade, a scissor cut or a buzz, and the same line up. The difference is what gets added after. The packages page lists them, and the sections below explain what each step is actually doing for you.

The Cut: haircut, line up, neckline and ear detail

The Cut is the complete haircut, finished the way a haircut should be finished. The hair on top and the sides is cut, the hairline and temples are lined, the neckline is set, and the hair around and on the ears is cleaned up.

The detail work is what separates it from a quick cut. The neckline on coily hair is either tapered with a guard or lined straight, depending on your skin and your style, and it is the part that decides how the cut looks from behind for the next two weeks. Ear detail is the hair on the top of the ear and the fuzz around it that most men never notice until a barber removes it. The line up frames the whole thing. On its own a line up is $16 and a haircut is $25, so The Cut is for the man who wants the full job every visit rather than deciding each time.

Cut and Beard: the beard trimmed to match the cut

Cut and Beard is The Cut plus a beard trim and sculpt and a razor beard line. It is the package for anyone with a beard, because a fresh fade over an untouched beard looks like half a visit.

The beard trim and sculpt evens the length, shapes the cheeks and chin to your face, and sets the neckline under the jaw. The razor beard line is the sharp edge along the cheeks and neck that makes the beard look drawn on. On bump prone skin we do that line with a trimmer instead of a razor and say so before we start, and the result still reads as sharp. The order matters: the cut and the hairline are done first, then the beard is shaped so the sideburns flow into it without a step. If you keep your own beard between visits, our post on how to trim a beard without taking too much covers the guard numbers, and this package is the one that resets it every few weeks.

The Full Service: hot towel finish and scalp treatment

The Full Service is everything in Cut and Beard with a hot towel shave finish and a scalp treatment added. It is the longest sit and the one men book before a wedding, a graduation, a court date or a first day.

Hot Towel Shave in Laurelton, NY
The hot towel finish comes last, after the cut and the beard are done.

The hot towel shave finish is a warm towel on the face to soften the skin and open the pores, a close finish on the neck and cheeks, and a cold towel to close everything back down. The scalp treatment is a cleanse, exfoliate and refresh on the skin of the head, which clears the buildup under coily hair and leaves the scalp clean under the new cut. Together they turn a haircut into an hour you look forward to, and you leave with the hair, the beard, the face and the scalp all done at once.

Which package for which week

Match the package to what has grown out and how much time you have. Most regulars rotate rather than ordering the same one every time.

  1. Every 2 weeks: The Cut. The hair and the lines need it, the beard can wait.
  2. Every 2 to 3 weeks with a beard: Cut and Beard. The beard neckline grows fuzzy in the same window the fade does, so resetting both together keeps the face even.
  3. Every 4 to 6 weeks, or before an event: The Full Service. The scalp treatment and the hot towel finish are not needed every visit, but once a month they keep the skin right and once before a big day they make the difference in photos.
  4. First beard trim at 12 weeks: Cut and Beard. The first time the beard gets shaped is worth doing with the cut so the two are designed together.

If you are not sure, tell the barber what you have coming up this week and he will point you to one. A man with a job interview on Thursday gets a different answer than a man with a barbecue on Sunday.

Packages versus one service at a time

You can order every service on its own, and the published prices are on the services page. Packages are priced by phone, so call for the number before you compare. What the package gives you that the list does not is one barber, one chair and one sequence.

Service on its ownPublished price
Haircut, taper, buzz cut, scissor cut$25
Fade$30
Line up (hair shape up)$16
Shave or straight razor shave$15

The practical difference is time and consistency. Booking a cut, a beard trim and a shave as separate services can mean three separate waits on a busy Saturday. The package is one sit, and the barber who cut your fade is the one shaping your beard to match it. For a kid, or for a man who only wants the hair done, the single services are the right call. For anyone who walks out and thinks about the beard they did not get trimmed, the package is.

How to get a package

Walk in and ask for it by name, or call ahead to check the wait and get the price. The Full Service is the longest sit, so if you want it on a Saturday, early is better.

DayHours
Monday to Thursday7:30 AM to 7 PM

Tell the barber which package when you sit down, and mention anything that changes the plan: bumps on the neck, a beard you are still growing, an event this week. The three packages are on the packages page and we take cash and major credit cards.

Questions readers ask

How long does a package take?

Longer than a single cut, and The Full Service is the longest of the three. Tell the barber when you need to leave and he will plan around it, or come early in the day when the chairs are open.

Do I have to have a beard for Cut and Beard?

You need something to shape, even a short one. For a beard under about five weeks, The Cut plus a line up usually covers it, and the first real beard trim works best around twelve weeks.

Which package is best before a wedding or an event?

The Full Service, done two to four days before so the fade settles and the skin calms after the hot towel shave. It covers the hair, the beard, the face and the scalp in one sitting.

Can I get a package for my son?

Kids cuts are $20 on their own and cover the hair and the line. Packages are built around beard and shave work, so for a boy the single services are the better fit.
